Dos and Don’ts with Your Salt Water Aquarium
Aquariums at home are said to be the best stress reliever. Aquariums can be big or small depending on the maintenance and care possible at home. There are two types of aquariums -fresh atre aquariums and salt water aquariums. The salt water aquariums are difficult to maintain than the fresh water aquariums as the ecology of the salt water aquarium differs and needs to be handled and taken care of with proper knowledge.
Salt water aquarium looks more beautiful, appealing and colorful for the simple reason it can have wide range of fishes and mammals, live corals, anemones, crustaceans or jelly fish. You can also keep some extravagantly colored reef fishes to enhance the beauty of the aquarium and the movement inside the aquarium looks vibrant and colorful. Some popular salt water fishes are Comical blenny, Angelfish, Clown fish, Blue lined triggerfish and Damsels and can be kept in salt water aquariums.
Some skilled and advanced aquarists keep squids and octopuses which creates an exact replica of the marine life at your desired place. The variety of fishes and marine life which can chosen to make the aquarium more vivacious and full of life is the main reason of its popularity
Before going for a salt water aquarium it is always better to study and research the ecosystem of salt water fishes, their food habits, the environment and surroundings conducive for their growth and development and the water temperature required for their survival. The extra time devoted for the study and research and knowing the exact requirement will prove beneficial in the long run as starting a salt water aquarium will definitely prove to be a gratifying experience.
To start with you will require a fish tank, Substrates, Filtration System, Heater or Thermometer, power head, protein skimmer, air pump and water pump. Whereas you can chose any one of the basic forms of salt water aquarium. Either you can go for the fish only, Fish with Live Rock or Reef system.
Salt water Aquarium Dos and Don’t
• The aquarium should be at least of 200litres as smaller one will have a problem of maintaining water quality and balance.
• The material of the aquarium should to be either in glass or acrylic.
• The location should not be in too much or too little sunlight. Excess sunlight will result in the growth of algae and too little sunlight will also be harmful. Always maintain a constant temperature.
• Make sure that the decoration kept, in the aquarium is salt proof otherwise it may poison your aquarium.
• Filter the aquarium whenever required. The filtration processes are mechanical filtration, biological filtration and chemical filtration.
• Don’t use ordinary salt water in your aquarium. Always use aquarium salt water available in fish store and mix in water following the proper instruction.
• The cleaning should never be done with detergent and soap as they pollute the water and harm the ecosystem. A capful of pure bleach added to 10 gallons of water will do the needful. Then clean it with fresh water afterwards.
• To maintain balance between the salts and water levels it is very essential to use a hydrometer. The water from the aquarium keeps evaporating buy the level of salt remains the same. To compensate the level of evaporated water salt water is not required. But to know the exact salinity of water Hydrometer is very helpful and will help you to add water as per requirement.

5 of the leading fish tanks available to you
Posted: Feb 22, 2011 |
But what types of aquariums are there and what considerations do you really have to make? Well this really depends on what exactly you are looking for, you might just want a small tank with a few fish to brighten up your living room, bedroom or even your office or you might want a real centre piece in which you can keep a range of tropical or marine fish.
Here we are going to take a look at 5 of the leading tank manufacturers and some of the aquariums in their range and suggest which fish they would be best suited to.
1) Red Sea Max – This range of fish tank comes in a number of sizes from 130 litres to 500 litres. It is of upmost importance that you decide exactly where this tank it to be situated before you add the water, rocks coral, fish etc as once this tank has been filled you will more than likely find it much too heavy to move. Look to place it away from drafts, direct sunlight or radiators as this will make regulating the temperature much easier. These tanks are attractive tanks which come with a number of accessories such as mechanical filtration, activated carbon and biological media but what is included can vary dependant on the tank you choose so always look at what exactly is included with the model you have selected before you place your order.
The 130 litre model is suitable for freshwater, marine and tropical fish and if you were looking more toward keeping freshwater or tropical then keeping around 40-50 small fish (such as Tetra), 5-10 medium fish (such as Gourami) and 4 large (such as Discuss) would be an approximation as to how many fish you could have.
If you wanted to keep this tank as a marine tank then you would be looking to keep 6-8 small marine fish (such as Gobies) or 4-6 medium marine fish (such as Clown Fish) fish in this tank along with rocks and coral.
Freshwater, Marine and Tropical are also suitable for the 250 litre version and the amount of fish you could keep would increase to around double of that suitable for the 130, if you wanted to add rocks and coral though the number of fish you kept really would depend on the amount of rocks and coral you included in the tank. The 500 litre model is more suited to marine fish and dependant on the type of set up you wanted it would be wise to seek advice as to how many fish to keep before making any purchases.
2) Juwel Aquariums – There are also a number of aquariums available in this range and the models start from 120 litres to 300 litres. These fish tanks come with stands and many of the models are available in a range of different colours including Beech, Dark Wood and Black. There is a range of equipment included with each of the models but this can differ from one to another so it is always better that you check what exactly is included before you place your order. With some of the models there is a high-lite unit and tubes, a heater and bio filter, pump and filter media in with the tank which should help you get started. As with the Red Sea Max range of fish tanks you would really be better of deciding where you are going to put your tank before you start to set it up and it is also recommended that you place it away from any drafts and radiators to make it easier to maintain the temperature. You should also look to keep it out of direct sunlight for the same reason.
To give you an approximate idea of how many fish would be suitable for each tank here is a brief guide:-
(Example Small Fish = Tetra, Medium = Gourami, Large = Discuss)
120 = Small 40-50, Medium 5-10, Large 4
125 = As per the 120
180 = Small 60, Medium 15, Large 6
190 = As per the 180
240 = Small 80, Medium 20, Large 10
260 = Small 90, Medium 25, Large 12
300 = Small 100, Medium 30, Large 13
This guide dies very much depend on your set up though as if you are looking to keep a marine tank with lots of rocks and coral the amount of fish suggested could drastically change, if you are unsure always seek advice prior to making any purchases.
3) Aqua Medic Aquariums – In this range of fish tanks there is a choice of size and design. The smallest of the tanks is 140 litres and the largest is an amazing 950litres. These ranges of aquariums are designed with keeping marine fish in mind and are an amazing looking range of tanks. The 950litre tank measures L 81.4inch x W 29.4inch x H 67.6inch and so you will need a large space to fit the aquarium in and as with all the other tanks it is highly recommended that you position it where you want it before you set it up as the weight will be far too heavy to move once the tank is complete.
The smallest of the aqua medic aquariums (140l) would be suitable for the same number of fish as the Red Sea Max 130 and the largest at 950l it would really depend on exactly which type of fish you wanted to keep. Due to this it would be suggested that you speak to an advisor once you have all the details of how you would like to set your tank up and then the aquatics expert to whom you speak should give you a good idea of how many fish would be suited to your new tank.
4) BiOrb – If you are looking for a smaller aquarium for a living room, bedroom or office then you might be better off looking to purchase a fish tank from the BiOrb range. There are many designs and sizes from which to choose starting with the Baby BiOrb which is 15litres right the way up to the new BiOrb 105 which holds an impressive 105 litres. This type of fish tank can be used for freshwater, saltwater or tropical fish (although for the tropical and marine you will need to buy a conversion kit/heater to get you started) and will be a focus point of any room with the original retro round bowl design or the smart and attractive life and BiUbe designs. There is also a huge choice in décor which has been designed specifically to fit in and compliment the tank making it interesting for your fish and for you.
The smallest of the BiOrb range at 15litres would be suitable for a small number of fish, for example 6 Tetra or 1 or 2 Fancy Goldfish, but the largest at 105litres would easily house 36 Tetra or 8 – 10 Fancy Goldfish.
5) Nano Cubes – The Nano Cubes start at 8 litres and the smaller of the tanks are suitable to keep a few tetras in or maybe freshwater shrimp but are not suitable for larger fish as they simply do not have the space that they require. The newest edition to the Nano Cube range is the Dymax IQ3, this tank is made from acrylic making it much lighter than a glass tank and has an LED light which is attached to a dimmer switch making it easy for you to control the light in the tank. The Nano Cubes are available in a number of different sizes which as mentioned start at 8 litres but which include 10 litres, 15 litres, 20 litres, 30 litres and 60 litres giving you a great range of table top/desk top fish tanks to choose from.
Although all the guidelines above are approximate and would still need to be checked with an advisor when purchasing your fish, this might give you a little more indication as to what fish tank would be best suited for you and also suited to the size of your home. Always read up on the type of fish you are looking to purchase too as some species are easier to keep than others, although all will need some form of basic up keep and maintenance. When you take on a tank and its inhabitants you have to be willing to make a commitment to them and their wellbeing and make sure that you set aside enough time to carry out any jobs that may need to be done.

Triggerfish in the Maldives
Posted: Sep 24, 2009 |Comments: 0
Triggerfish Appearance
The triggerfish can become quite a large fish, sometimes up to 3 feet in length. They travel in groups, and are characterised by their green scales covered in spots or stripes. They are an attractive fish, usually very popular with snorkelers and scuba divers. They have a fairly flat body and two dorsal spines which they can lock, giving them their name “trigger” fish. They use this ability as a defense mechanism against their predators.
Triggerfish Activity and Behaviour
The triggerfish is a generally solitary fish, swimming around the reef feeding on small invertebrates that live around the coral reef. During their breeding season, the triggerfish hides their eggs in a hole and can become quite aggressive in order to protect their eggs. Their have been cases of a triggerfish attacking scuba divers and snorkelers and because some of them have big teeth, these attacks can draw blood, although are unlikely to result in any serious injury.
Triggerfish Species
There are several different kinds of triggerfish, all of which are different in appearance, whether it be size, colors or actual design. Species present in the Maldives include the Titan Triggerfish, the Clown Triggerfish and the Picasso Triggerfish. The Picasso Triggerfish is probably the most spectacular of the varieties, thanks to his stunning black, white and yellow markings.
Where to find Triggerfish in the Maldives
While Triggerfish are very commonly spotted in the Maldives, there are several dive sites where encounters are more common than others. These include: The Fihalhohi Reef, Meeru Island and Ari Atoll.

Setting up a Fish Tank Aquarium
Posted: Nov 26, 2008 |Comments: 0
It can be fun to set up a fish tank aquarium but as in all hobbies it pays to do some research before you start. Before you purchase any fish you need to cycle the tank correctly to ensure that there are sufficient bacteria to cope with the waste products of your fish. We recommend a fishless cycling method detailed below.
Choosing the Tank
Fish tank aquariums can be purchased in glass or acrylic. Glass tanks are cheaper, are heavier and occasionally spring leaks. Acrylic tanks are more expensive, rarely leak, come in a variety of shapes but do scratch easily. Acrylic tanks usually last longer than glass tanks.
Fish Tank Shape
Acrylic tanks come in a variety of shapes including cylinder, hexagon, octagon and round as well as the traditional rectangular shape. There are also wall tanks and coffee table tanks. The traditional rectangular shape is still the best however as the water volume to surface area is a maximum giving good gas exchange. For other shapes, with smaller water volume to surface area ratio, maintenance will be higher and more frequent water changes will be needed.
In general buy the largest tank that will fit where you will be placing it and you can afford. A larger tank requires less maintenance and you can fit in more fish without risking overcrowding.
Fishless Cycling Method
Requirements
Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate testing strips
Bacteria culture from an established tank – this can be some filter material or some gravel
Alternatively use a commercial preparation such as Colonize by Dr Foster & Smith or Biospira by Marineland
Unscented ammonia
Method
After adding the bacteria culture to your newly set up tank add 5 drops of ammonia for every ten gallons of water. Test for ammonia. If nothing registers add a few more drop until you get a reading. Continue to add the same amount every day until you can detect nitrites in the tank. Now add half the amount of ammonia daily until nitrate registers on the testing strip. At this point the nitrite levels should start to drop. When they reach zero the tank is cycled. Do a 30% water change and you are ready for your fish.
Choosing the Fish
Carefully research the types of fish that can be kept together. Community fish are those that live peacefully with each other. All the fish listed below are suitable for a tropical community fish tank.
* Guppy
* Horseface Loach
* Lyretail
* Hatchetfish
* Molly
* Leopard Catfish
* Neon Tetra
* Head Tail Light Tetra
* Opaline Gourami
* Platy
* Pearl Gourami
* Harlequin Rasbora
* Penguin Fish
* White Cloud
* Rainbowfish
* Black Phantom Tetra
* Australian Rainbowfish
* Ram
* Black Shark
* X-Ray Fish
* Spotted Catfish
* Blue Acara
* Plecostomus
* Rummy Nosed Tetra
* Serpae Tetra
* Spiketailed Paradisefish
* Blue Acara
* Angelfish
* Black Shark
* Pencilfish
* Cherry Barb
* Black Neon Tetra
* Bristlenose
* Chinese Algae Eater
* Upside Down Catfish
* Bala (Tri-Color) Shark
* Zebra Danio
* Elephant Nose
* Boesman’s Rainbowfish
* Black Phantom Tetra
* Flame Tetra
* Dwarf Loach
* Green Catfish
* Dwarf Gourami
* Congo Tetra
* Blue Danio
* Bumble Bee Goby
* Bloodfin
* Glowlight Tetra
* Corydoras
* Banjo Catfish
* Cardinal Tetra
* Flame Gourami
* Giant Danio
* Clown Loach
* Festivum
* Emperor Tetra
Carefully inspect the fish tanks at the pet shop to make sure the fish look healthy and no dead fish are in the tanks. Research the fish you will be buying carefully and check up on their temperature and water quality requirements. Tropical fish will need a higher temperature than goldfish. Some fish are relatively peaceful when young but are bullies when fully grown. Tiger barbs are good examples of these.
Always avoid overcrowding. You will need a larger tank for bigger fish. For angel fish never use a tank smaller than ten gallons. After purchase never introduce fish to an established tank but quarantine in a separate tank for at least a week to ensure you do not introduce disease organisms into you tank.

Adding Angelfish To Your Freshwater Fish Tank
Posted: Jan 25, 2007
Angelfish are beautiful and graceful – a great addition to any fish tank but you need to be careful that you don’t put them in a tank that has fish that they will not get along with. Even though these fish seem peaceful and gentle, they can be mildly aggressive and might tend to eat your smaller fish!
A member of the Cichlid family, Angelfish come in many varieties and colors. They can be a little bit fragile when they are young but as they grow older they can be quite hardy. You’ll want to keep them in groups of six or more, however, as just two or three is not a good mix and you may find that the stronger one bullies the weaker fish, but if you keep them in large schools they should be fine.
You’ll need a large aquarium for these fish, either 29 gallons or larger depending on how many fish total you want to keep. Make sure you have gravel that is at least 1/4″ thick. You will have to keep the tank temperature between 70 and 82°F so be sure that you mix your angelfish with other fish that thrive in this temperature. Make sure your aquarium is at least 24 inches deep – the deeper the better and the deeper your fish tank, the larger your fish will grow. Some angel fish have been reported to grow as large as 12 inches.
Angelfish are not that difficult to feed and they don’t really require any special food. You can give them the floating flake food that you find in any pet store and may be substituted in some freeze dried blood worms. If you want to give them a treat, try some brine shrimp or live black worms but be sure to select worms that are in good condition. Although the angelfish is mildly aggressive there are many other fish that can get along quite well in the tank with them. Large Tetras (not the tiny neons) and Silver Dollar fish get along great as do Swordtails Mollies and Platies. Avoid putting Guppies in with your Angelfish is the Angels do tend to eat them. Other fish that you can include in the tank include Gouramis, Clown Loaches, Bala Sharks and Giant Danios.
Although easy to care for and rather hardy, Angelfish can become victims to other fish that like to nip at their long fins. In addition to this they can be susceptible to a common fish tank disease called hole in the head disease which manifests itself as a sore on the fishes head and spreads alarmingly eventually killing the fish.
If you treat your angelfish right, don’t overcrowd the tank, make sure you do regular maintenance, feed him properly and keep the tank at the right temperature your fish can live for 10 years!

What Live Coral Can Do for Your Aquarium
Posted: Apr 17, 2008
There are many great things that live coral can do for your aquarium. They are not only fn to look at and unique creatures, they can help to properly maintain your aquarium so that everything living in it is able to last for a long time. When it comes to the live coral, there are several things that you should know about that will help to keep the aquarium healthy and lively. When adding coral to your tank, you will have many different options to choose from that will help you to have the best possible tank.
There are many unique characteristics of live coral that can help your tank to look as unique and exotic as possible. They serve a big function in the aquarium in addition to their look. In fact, they add character to the tank and help to provide shelter and homes for many coral reef fish. Depending on the type of aquarium and how large it is, there are some live coral that are better than others. It will depend on how many you want in the tank in addition to the way that they reproduce and live in the tank. You also need to consider any fish that you already have in the aquarium. Because saltwater aquariums require more care, it is harder to find the right live coral and coral reef fish that can live in one small environment.
There are several ways that you can go about shopping for live coral. It makes it easier to shop for fish if you choose your live coral before the fish. Once you have all of the live coral that you want, you can then search for the coral reef fish that will be able to survive in the same tank. Some coral reef fish, like the clown fish, rely on live coral for their own survival. With the right live coral and fish, your aquarium will be able to be a nice place to live.

Aquarium Products

You will find hundreds of books written about fish keeping which are readily obtainable, nevertheless there is not enough time to read a book prior to we begin, so let’s get going and we will maintain fish successfully by staying using the basics, then you are able to become an expert later on, from experience, as well as from books.
Why do we want an aquarium, simply because it is really a fantastic indoor hobby that teaches so many things, about nature, h2o, fish behaviour, vegetation and decoration, plus when you create a good show it looks fantastic as nicely.
There is a little operate involved in setting up and keeping a good show, but what good is a hobby with nothing to do and with out doubt, aquariums are a extremely enjoyable and satisfying hobby.
Remember too, that you are creating an underwater world, your aquarium is a micro system of living creatures that will react to each other and so there is no exact science or instructions, but a gradual building from the understanding of your creation.
You will find three different types of environment that you can produce depending on the kinds of fish that you would like to maintain, here mentioned with a little detail to assist you choose, but in greater depth later, so you only have to read about the type of environment you have selected.
Coldwater Aquariums Contain ornamental goldfish, a small number of other species and a variety of plants that will thrive indoors, but in water that is not heated. Good for quick bright displays, but as much operate as tropical fish to keep looking nice, frequently because the much more efficient filters and equipment aren’t considered as important as with the other environments.
Tropical Aquariums have the advantage of a wide variety of fish from the warmer parts from the globe, the varieties available are incredible, but a little care in selection is important to ensure they’ll get on well with every other. A community aquarium provides a variety of fish with an excellent choice of water vegetation to truly make an outstanding display. As your aquarium develops the Tropical aquarium also provides the benefit of being able to breed and raise your own fish, if you want to. The tropical aquarium has a thermostatically controlled heater to maintain the warmer temperature.
Marine Aquariums are defined by the remarkable shapes and stunning colors from the coral reef fish, from the fairly low price damsel fish and clowns towards the higher priced rarities, no other types of fish can possibly compete using the amazing display that could be produced. Essentially the addition of a synthetic sea salt mix and different décor will be the only distinction to the freshwater tropical aquarium. Although there is no question that it will be the more costly from the different environments to set up and keep.

Tips in Setting-Up a Saltwater Aquarium
Posted: Oct 12, 2009
Saltwater aquariums are beautiful setups at home. It relieves stress and tension.
An aquarium is a vivarium consisting of at least 1 transparent side, keeping water-dwelling animals and plants inside. These aquariums can hold fish, amphibians, invertebrates, aquatic plants, and marine mammals.
Aquariums have two types, namely; the saltwater aquariums and the fresh water aquariums. A saltwater aquarium is harder to maintain because marine fishes and other saltwater life are more delicate to maintain. It requires studying a bit of environmental science to understand marine life.
A saltwater aquarium is more appealing, colorful, and beautiful. Marine life is composed of a wide variety of fishes and mammals, anemones, live corals, jellyfish and crustaceans inside the tanks. You can also keep several colored reef fishes for a more natural effect. Thus, the movement of the living organisms inside often looks colorful and vibrant. Several popular saltwater aquarium fishes include the angelfish, comical blenny, blue lined triggerfish, damsels, and the clown fish.
It is very important to maintain the level of water and salt of saltwater tanks to keep the aquamarine species in your saltwater aquarium alive and healthy. Water from these saltwater aquariums tend to evaporate and leaves behind only the salt. A hydrometer is a useful device in detecting water salinity, and compensating the level of evaporated water.
There are two types of hydrometers used by aquarists. The first one is the swing needle hydrometer. The other one comes with a tube and a separate needle around 3/8 inches in diameter. The swing needle hydrometer is packed with all its parts together as compared to the other hydrometer with a tube and a separate needle. It is placed inside a narrow plastic container. When filled with seawater, the swing needle hydrometer starts moving in an arc position. This is right onto the graduation marked on the container and stopping at the relevant SG.
When setting up your own saltwater aquarium, first check the tank for leaks. Then, clean your tank with 1 teaspoon of pure bleach for every 5 gallons of water. Scrub the tank, plastic plants, rocks and other decorations. Rinse them with clean water.
Install the filtration system next. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully.
Wash the substrate before you put it in your aquarium. Then, put the plants inside, securing the bottoms in the substrate. Fill a large bucket with clean water.
Using your hydrometer, add some salt. Fill your aquarium with saltwater, leaving about one inch at the top. Start your filter system. Then, add the thermometer and heater. Most of the marine fishes are healthy in 70 and 80 degrees.
Let the system run for 72 hours prior to getting the temperature setting. Then add the fish you bought in the pet shop when the tank temperature is within the limits and the chemical levels are all sanctioned.
Buy a power head to produce constant water movement. it is very necessary to marine fishes. Be careful when you buy one. Make sure you do not buy the big one because it can cause a whirlpool effect.
Buy a protein skimmer. This is also important for your marine tank. The protein skimmer will remove organic debris from the water. You will also need an external air pump and water pump for your skimmer.

Maintaining A Freshwater Aquarium
Some freshwater fish are easier to keep than other species. Angelfish, Killifish, Clown Loach, Hatchetfish, etc, are few choice fish that you want to consider. However, you will need a bit of experience to handle few of the fish listed. Holacanthus Trimaculatus includes the family to the Trimaculatus group, which includes the Angelfish. These fish have some of the most attractive colors. The tropical fish have dark blue lips, which counterbalance the fish’s golden-yellowish frame. Three-spot Angelfish is a selection of the many Angelfish. The fish come from the West Pacific oceans, as well as the Indian oceans. Three-Spotted Angels have a shape comparable to the butterfly fish. Three-Spotted Angelfish throat has a dark blue as well. The fish vary in color, which you can purchase orange-yellow, gold, etc. Few Angelfish have dark patches around the facial area, which the edges have fill flaps that are covered.
Angelfishes are one of my favorites, since this fish provides an attractive view. The outer edges of the Angelfishes fins are spotted, which sometimes the spots are black. White contrasts the black, which is located at the inner area of the fish. Angelfish grows up to 10 inches in size. In addition, Angelfish tend to feed from plants, larvae, small creatures, etc. Angelfish are recommended to live with their own kin, although the fish are peaceful.
If you are starting out, I will give you a direction to follow in fish care and aquariums. We can start with aquariums.
Aquariums:
Tank Preferred: You want to consider the fish type before considering the preferred tank. It makes no sense to purchase a tank and find out the fish type demand a different style.
Principles of balance: pH is the basic principle of balance, as well as temperature, water condition, etc. In addition to preferred tanks, and principles however you want to consider plant mediums, water, stonework, heaters, filtration, diseases, feed, lighting, fish choice, tank plants: (Floating plants, submerged plants) Furthermore, you will need to consider maintenance, quiddities, and so on. In food supplies, you will have the choice of live food, dried foods, vegetables, and so on.
Fish Group:
The fish groups include the: Polypteridae, Osteoglossidae, Doradidae, Pantodontidae, Notopteridae, Rhamphichthyidae, Mormyridae,Gymnotidae, Umbridae, Cyprinidae, Characidae, Anostomidae, Bagridae, Siluridae, and so on. Prepare to consider more than 20,000 aquarium fish.
Ugly fish:
If you like ugly fish, check out the fascinating Frogfish. Frogfish come from the Antennariuus Group and the family of Anennaridae.
Frogfish tend to rest in warm saltwater, or seawater. The frogfish has a territorial behavior pattern, which requires well-matched companionship.
Starters should consider another type of fish, yet the frogfish is ideal for those desiring the ugly and fascinating creatures. Frogfish are kin prefer to live in peaceable environments and in areas where their kind rest. Concluding Frogfish, I want to say that this fish is notorious for hunting, trapping, and feasting on all sized fish, including larger fish.
Continuing, one of the all-time favorite fish is the famous goldfish. The goldfish come from the Carassius Auratus group and is family to the Cyprinidae. Goldfish are little critters and come in or shapes, colors, and size. Goldfish can grow up to 1 inch, or six inches in size. Goldfish are found in most pet shops, and are one of the easier freshwater fish to maintain. Many goldfish are omnivorous, which means the fish will eat about anything you toss their way, such as dried foods, live bait, vegetable materials, and animal materials. Provide these fellers plenty of plants and the goldfish will be your friend for life.
